Seed and Stone: 2025 Solo Show

Seed and Stone will formally open on July 11 at 2000 L St. NW. An opening celebration will take place from 6-9 pm.

Washington, DC: Through a partnership with Homme DC, we are pleased to present Seed and Stone, an exhibition of new artworks by Rose Jaffe, a DC-born and raised artist currently residing in Prince George's County, MD.

Jaffe’s previous solo exhibit, Harmonious Bloom, focused on transformational growth and self care through vibrantly colored monoprints and sculptures. Subsequently, Seed and Stone delves deep into connections to nature, community, and sustainability while using approaches that are notably distinct from her other bodies of work. The show expands on the ideas evident in previous shows by exploring the ways that connections to our immediate natural surroundings can prompt both care for one another and the environments that sustain us.

In Seed and Stone, Jaffe presents a series of prints primarily created in Veracruz, Mexico while attending a residency at La Ceiba Grafica, a printmaking studio known for its focus on traditional and sustainable methodologies. Sourcing plates from the local mercado from corn husks to food packaging, Jaffe pushes the boundaries of the monoprinting techniques that she has honed in recent years. These works are printed on paper that is produced in small batches by hand at La Ceiba from cotton, kozo (paper mulberry), and recycled fibers.

Each piece is an expression of relationship through materiality - from handmade papers to recycled packing, steel and wood, the material is a centering element in the narrative. It encourages a deeper understanding of time, object and environment.
